B-Lovee x DJ Swill B “X Factor”

by Aidan C Werder on March 15, 2022

This week, the x-factor of the Bronx, B-Lovee teamed up with Jersey hitmaker, DJ Swill B for a chill drill banger – already with over 500K views ahead of B-Lovee’s upcoming new project, Courtlandt Baby II set to drop soon.

For the normally fiery Bronx driller, on “X Factor” we see a tastefully toned-down version of B-Lovee’s signature raspy delivery. His gritty flow and syncopated bars contrast with the gentle, piano-led production (produced by DJ Swill B) infused with the punchy bass and asymmetrical hi-hats that have become synonymous with the drill genre. Between B-Lovee’s captivating flow and the carefully crafted, mellow production, “X Factor” is easily one of the best laidback ‘chill drill’ tracks since his breakout smash, “IYKYK.”

In the lavish video for “X Factor”, we see B-Lovee in an expansive North Jersey suburban mansion joined by Swill and a literal team of at least a dozen models – delivering bars as he shows off the various impressive amenities the extravagant property has to offer. There’s also a special moment dedicated to his currently incarcerated right-hand man, featuring a stack of “Free Kay Flock” t-shirts and a jailhouse phone recording from the man himself.

B-Lovee is one of the undisputed stars to have risen out of the much-discussed NY Drill scene, and particularly Bronx drill - the hard-edged, sample-heavy regional sound that he helped pioneer alongside Kay Flock and Dougie B. After first hitting the radar in 2020 with joint tracks like “Opp Spotter” and “Brotherly Love” in 2021, B-Lovee launched himself into the stratosphere last summer with the hugely popular singles “IYKYK”, “Neaky” and later “My Everything” – gaining widespread attention for his clever use of iconic samples to create radio-friendly drill tracks with broad appeal. Joining him on “X Factor” is DJ Swill B, a staple of the Jersey scene and the mastermind behind Mr. Chicken’s breakout hit “Never Could” to lay the foundation with his unique, laidback drill production.

Overall, “X Factor” is an excellent display of B-Lovee’s range and – along with his recent collabs with fellow Bronx royalty, A Boogie – the perfect way to set the stage for the release of his upcoming project.
