One of Travis Scott’s oldest partners in crime, CHASE B, managed to put together yet another killer collaborative single - bringing together Detroit and Chicago on the ice for “365” ahead of the release of his debut solo project, ‘Escapism’ set to drop this month.
“365” is an unusually catchy collaboration featuring Babyface Ray and GT out of Detroit, and Zona Man out of Chicago - three of the most exciting artists on the rise from the Midwest, each with their own distinct, unorthodox brand of gritty, understated hip hop. The ominous, bass-heavy production (produced by Cardo Got Wings) is clearly inspired by the regional Detroit sound - sounding tailor-made for Babyface Ray’s signature “offbeat” flow on the opening hook, dripping with cool confidence as usual.
The high-production music video, directed by Joseph Desrosiers, takes place during a contentious hockey match - an unusual setting for a rap video and for Houston-native CHASE B - but the perfect place for the Midwesterners, looking right at home on the ice. The video opens with a dope hook from Face as the match gets underway and a huge brawl breaks out. Before long, Zona Man pauses the action with a dramatic entrance and a fire verse - showcasing his distinct flow and reminding us that Illinois does in fact border Michigan. After a pep talk from coach CHASE in the locker room, Detroit fan-favorite GT closes with his signature casual flow and understated vocal.
For those that may be unaware, CHASE B is most known for being Travis Scott’s DJ as well as a key member of Cactus Jack Records and the JACKBOYS - along with Travis, Don Toliver, and Sheck Wes. CHASE is probably Travis’s oldest partner; their relationship dates back to the early days before their meteoric rise and even their moms know each other. He explained on The Buster Show (with HoopsNation founder Buster Scher) how the two worked on music while attending college at the University of Texas, developing what would become Travis’ groundbreaking style that would launch him into the stratosphere. When the opportunity to perform came up, it only made sense that CHASE would be the DJ. After dropping out of college and moving to New Jersey, CHASE and Travis were all-in on music - recording, traveling, and performing at small shows until eventually, the hard work began to compound and obviously ended up working out.
In recent years, CHASE B has begun releasing his own singles - curating top-tier talent to create one-off bangers like “365”, each of which has gone over hugely well. In 2019, he dropped “MAYDAY” feat. Sheck Wes & Young Thug - now with over 8.5M streams on Spotify. In July of 2020, he dropped “Cafeteria” with Don Toliver and Gunna - now his biggest song to date with 7.1M views and over 22M Spotify Streams. Quickly followed by “For Me”, a hugely catchy his-and-her track with OMB Bloodbath and KenTheMan that’s been streamed over 17M times.
Today, as he prepares for the release of his upcoming project set to drop later this month, “365” is already gearing up to be CHASE B’s next big single as it climbs the Youtube Trending charts. Be sure to check out the video for “365” below - and be on the lookout for CHASE B’s debut solo project, ‘Escapism’ as well as his feature on Cactus Jack labelmate, Don Toliver’s upcoming album.
