Cordae “Sinister” feat. Lil Wayne

by NoJumperStore on December 08, 2021

On Friday, the two time Grammy-nominated Cordae dropped his new single “Sinister” featuring the goat himself, Lil Wayne - accompanied by a highly produced Black Panther-themed visual (as in Malcolm… not Marvel) by music video master, Edgar Esteves. Over the weekend, the new release has already cracked 1M Spotify streams and is Trending #10 on YouTube with over 1.3M views.

Sinister” is a tightly executed showcase of Cordae’s impressive and increasingly rare lyrical style - weaving intricate bars and clever wordplay to relay fully baked (and fully understandable) thoughts about serious topics. One of the most striking aspects of Cordae’s overall disposition is just how positive he is - forgoing the typical guns, drugs, and girls to discuss topics like finding success, overcoming hardships, and uplifting others (shoutout Tech N9ne!).

The video for “Sinister” - directed by the apparent new king of high-budget hip hop music videos, Edgar Esteves of Blank Square Productions - depicts Cordae as a Fred-Hampton type leader of a Black Panther civil rights organization named “Hi Level” after his newly formed record label announced earlier this year. After addressing the group, Cordae introduces Wayne as the special guest speaker - reminding everyone why he sits atop so many “Best Rapper Alive” lists as he delivers yet another killer verse as he has thousands of times before. In this video, we also get a good look at Weezy’s new, unusual fashion sense he’s been developing over the last few years (and may try to turn into a collection at some point) - characterized mainly by incredibly oversized sweaters and jackets that would make Kyle Kuzma proud.

Overall, “Sinister” is just the latest evidence that Cordae is one of the best young artists in the game keeping the spirit of lyricism alive and fresh - and further proof that there is more than one kind of hip hop that resonates in 2021. The addition of first-ballot hall-of-famer Lil Wayne was the perfect choice to bring this song to the next level, and hopefully comes a sign that we can expect more new music and big collabs from Cordae in the new year.
