Bronx drill phenom Dougie B celebrated his return with “I’m Back” - a hard-hitting, gritty drill track to follow his recent viral Cardi B collab, and perhaps his most electric solo release to date. Hopefully, this is the last installation of #NoMoreFreeDougieB.
“I’m Back” is everything fans would have hoped and still manages to keep listeners on their toes by avoiding some of the well-worn drill tropes. The song is built around spooky, high-intensity production by NY drill staples A Lau & Eli Wtf, whose beat tags have become a part of the very fabric of the regional sound. Dougie takes an interesting line over the busy production - somehow squeezing in tightly packed, passionately delivered bars and ruthless catchphrases, each line more energetic than the last.
The accompanying KLO Vizionz-directed visual is a home run shot in the typical run-and-gun style for Bronx drill visuals but elevated with super clean wall-to-wall VFX (by Natey.FX), that perfectly highlight Dougie’s iconic dance moves and capture the frenzied atmosphere he seems to cultivate so well.
Dougie is best known as a close friend and collaborator of Bronx drill frontrunners, Kay Flock and B-Lovee - recognized for his infectious off-the-wall energy, sturdy dance moves, and for stealing the show on the trio’s breakout collab hit “Brotherly Love” in March 2021 (now with over 17M views). Most recently he appeared alongside Cardi B on the historic Bronx drill viral smash, “Shake It”, holding it down for his currently incarcerated brother Kay Flock in the music video that’s racked up over 15M views since it was released just two weeks ago. The tables have turned since Flock and B-Lovee first started gaining momentum in 2020, when Dougie was the one locked up, prompting the “Free Dougie B” refrain and later “No More Free Dougie B” collab with Flock and Sha EK.
Dougie B - along with Kay Flock and B-Lovee - have come a long way since they were first introduced to a wider audience, spearheading the Bronx drill wave as three of the most notable artists to break out from the scene, each signing their own major label record deal in 2021. Hopefully, Dougz is in the clear now and “I’m Back” is just the beginning of a string of new releases from the Bronx’s most energetic.
