EST Gee “Misery Loves Company”

by Aidan C Werder on December 07, 2021

On Friday, Louisville’s EST Gee dropped the music video for “Misery Loves Company” on the same day as ‘Bigger Than Life Or Death Part 2’ - a new project with 8 brand new tracks that’s already climbing the rankings - to follow up his chart-topping debut album ‘Bigger Than Life Or Death’ that dropped this past July.

Misery Loves Company” is a perfect example of EST Gee’s gritty sound and unapologetically street-oriented style - jam packed with savage one liners, clever wordplay, and insular jargon that makes it clear he knows what he’s talking about… and nearly impossible to follow if you don’t. The deceptively simple piano-led trap instrumental (produced by a dream team of Murda Beats, TnTXD, and J Diesel) has Gee’s ominous vocal and brutally vivid lyrics front-and-center as he delivers unrelenting street bars one after the other like you’ve never heard before.

The video for “Misery Loves Company” (directed by Diesel Filmz) puts Gee’s impressive jewelry collection, distinct fashion sense, and fiercely loyal inner circle on full display - more than ever looking like the final boss for gangster rappers in 2021.

EST Gee’s one-of-a-kind flow, intense energy, and unique ability to paint detailed (and not necessarily pretty) pictures of a certain way of life have placed him at the forefront of street oriented hip hop in 2021. Gee really began making waves in 2020 with the release of ‘Ion Feel Nun’, and burst onto the scene later that year with the hugely impressive, no-skip project ‘I Still Dont Feel Nun’ - packed with top tier features from 42 Dugg, Moneybagg Yo,  Babyface Ray, Kevin Gates, YFN Lucci, fellow Louisville native Jack Harlow, and future label head, Yo Gotti. Not to mention standout solo tracks like “Opinion Base”, “Young Shiners”, and “Ball Forever.” Gee was properly introduced to a national audience in 2021 with his feature on Lil Baby’s single “Real As It Gets” - more than holding his own with one of best in the game and earning 50M views on Youtube and his first Billboard entry, peaking at #34. Building on the momentum, in July he unleashed his debut album under Yo Gotti’s CMG: ‘Bigger Than Life Or Death’ with a dream feature list including Lil Baby, Future, Lil Durk, Young Thug, Pooh Shiesty, and more - peaking at #7 on Billboard and earning him the top spot on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 Artists Chart and Billboard Heatseeker Albums Chart.

After seemingly coming out of nowhere to ascend to the top of the gangster rap hierarchy in 2021, EST Gee is clearly a force to be reckoned with. While his raw, aggressive style may not be for everyone, it’s clear that he’s telling a story that people want to hear. So much so that it seems like he can’t put out music fast enough - on Instagram promising an additional 3 songs on top of the 8-track ‘‘Bigger Than Life Or Death Part 2’ released on Friday.
