On Friday, Fivio Foreign made Brooklyn, NY proud with the release of his long-awaited debut album, B.I.B.L.E. – notably executive-produced by Ye himself. With it, came the first visual from the project (outside of the instant-classic “City of Gods”), the JLShotThat-directed music video for one of the project’s few solo tracks, “For Nothin”.
The early feedback from the new album is overwhelmingly positive, with its first video “For Nothin” already approaching 1M views and trending on YouTube. The song is an excellent example of Fivio’s growth and the elevated drill sound he brings throughout the project – built around a laidback, almost tender EDM-type melody and interspersed with the unmistakable lightning cracks and wompy bass of NY drill. Fivio skates over the polished production with his new-and-improved flow, showcasing a level of maturity and lyricism that some thought he might never reach as he weaves intricate bars about protecting his status as a genuine NYC big dog.
Just the second visual of the project, the video for “For Nothin” was directed by Brooklyn drill staple and longtime Fivio collaborator, JLShotThat. It shows Fivio at his shiniest, donning his full buss down set up as he goes through various preparations for the release of B.I.B.L.E. Interspersed with behind-the-scenes clips of the making of the album, viewers see cameos from familiar faces in Dougie B, Sosa Geek, and of course TDott - Fivio’s right-hand man, life of the party, and originator of many of the now-iconic dance moves associated with New York drill who was tragically killed in Brooklyn earlier this year. Many tributes to TDott can be seen throughout the project and its visuals.
Fivio has been on a historic run ever since his iconic “Ye doin my album” announcement following his standout “Off the Grid” performance alongside Playboi Carti on DONDA. In the past few months since, Fivio has risen to the occasion and then some: exceeding all expectations with back-to-back show-stopping releases including “Story Time”, the instant-NYC-anthem “City of Gods” with Ye and Alicia Keys, and just last week the legendary linkup with Nicki Minaj on “We Go Up”.
With B.I.B.L.E., Fivio is fully stepping into his star power and successfully taking up the mantle of NYC Drill that was unexpectedly and tragically left behind by the larger-than-life Pop Smoke – fulfilling his promise to elevate the drill sound far beyond where anyone once thought… and perhaps even higher.
