Louisiana’s newest rising star, FL Dusa is back with a new electric single, “Bad Man”, once again linking with fellow Baton Rouge-royalty, Kevin Gates.
For those who have yet to experience FL Dusa, “Bad Man” is the perfect introduction. From its heavy trap production led by a blaring horn section to Dusa’s thick, unmistakable Baton Rouge accent - everything about this track is fiercely Louisiana. As the biggest artist to ever come out of the state (outside of Lil Wayne and perhaps Youngboy), Kevin Gates is the perfect ambassador to bring Dusa’s regional sound to the masses. He opens “Bad Man” with a powerful and instantly catchy hook, dipping into his lower register to deliver punchy, carefully annunciated bars in only the way he can – lending some of his magic with a vintage Gates hook. Dusa’s classic Louisiana drawl perfectly contrasts with Gate’s deep baritone as they seamlessly trade bars on the hook, before putting his all into an energetic verse about the importance of standing on business.
The video for “Bad Man” - directed by another Louisiana legend, Gates’ longtime partner OG Boobie Black - shows the pair of natives looking real comfortable in the trenches of East Baton Rouge as they take turns delivering their bars from the front steps of the trap house, surrounded by a ski-mask-wearing entourage. One would never think they would see the day where Gates looks out of place in the trenches, but compared to Dusa and his modest surroundings, between his glowing skin and flowing, feather-adorned hair it’s hard to hide the multi-platinum success.
The quiet superstar, Kevin Gates, is throwing his full weight behind his childhood friend and latest signee, FL Dusa - who last year made their partnership official when he signed to Gates’ Bread Winners Association imprint. The two have connected several times before, each collaboration resulting in a new high watermark for Dusa: linking for the first time on the intensely Louisiana self-titled single, “Dusa” and again on “Dear God” - which quickly became his biggest song to date, climbing the charts and accumulating over 16M Spotify streams. In December, he dropped Respect My Mind, presumably his first project under BWA featuring songs like "Ashes," "Big Dawg" and "Love Nobody."
FL Dusa is quickly arriving as the next up out of Baton Rouge. With his charismatic personality, electric hyper-regional style, and the full support of the influential Kevin Gates, there’s no reason why Dusa can’t be the next star out of Louisiana.
