If you’ve been on the internet anytime in the last few months, chances are good that you’ve heard Jnr Choi’s massively viral “To the Moon” (Drill Remix) used in the background of countless social media videos across Tik Tok, Instagram, and Youtube. This week, he followed up on the song’s viral success with yet another new version, forming an international Avengers team of drill artists for the ultimate drill remix featuring Fivio Foreign, G Herbo, Russ Millions, and M24.
Even before its many remixes, there are many layers to “To the Moon”. The defining production (by Parked Up) is built around a captivating sample of singer Sam Tompkin’s cover of Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon” - who ended up receiving an artist credit alongside Jnr Choi after a brief dispute that resulted in it being removed from platforms. Since then it’s been played millions of times across social media, remixed with Gunna, and even cracked the US Billboard Top 40.
Recently, Jnr Choi spun back around to unleash a second remix of “To The Moon” - this time a proper drill remix featuring some of the genre’s most important figures from three of its most important cities: London-native and UK drill staples Russ Millions and M24, Chicago drill legend G Herbo, and of course NYC drill torchbearer and Mr. Viral himself, Fivio Foreign. Each represented their cities and their respective versions of the aggressive, street-oriented sub-genre well - on what has to be one of the only times representatives of all three major drill styles have joined forces on one track.
For the music video, they enlisted NYC drill staple, JLShotThat, who elevated the viral hit with a super crisp visual in the now-iconic drill style that he helped pioneer - even capturing Russ Millions and M24 getting sturdy all the way across the pond.
Overall, this “To the Moon” remix is a home run for everyone involved - and major points to Jnr Choi for using the success of this remix to help shine a light on some of drill’s most important figures.
