For those that may not be familiar with Lucki, “UGK” is the perfect introduction to his unique, experimental style - defined by his hypnotic, nasally flow, distinct ear for futuristic production, and an incredibly charismatic general disposition that always seems to border on the line between depressed and wildly confident. “UGK” is built around a simple yet powerful synth-based beat by F1lthy, its pulsing melody laying the perfect foundation for Lucki’s one-of-a-kind flow to ask: “Who need you to tell them you the goat?” - a question that serves as the backbone of the song that somehow manages to be simple, complex, thought-provoking, and catchy all at the same time.
The visual for UGK (directed by the visionary Lucki-staple, Lonewolf) opens with a very stunning, sweeping drone shot that creates the effect of falling down the side of a skyscraper to meet Lucki’s awaiting Mercedes down below at street level - the song’s blaring synths fading in as he pulls off. The rest of the video features a variety of well-done edits and trippy transitions between scenes of Lucki sleeping, sipping, and sliding in the whip.
While Lucki has been a staple of the Soundcloud scene for years - often referred to as the Underground King for the way he’s been able to remain relevant and continuously push the sound forward - in 2021 he has elevated to new heights yet again. At the top of the year, following ‘The World Is Lucki’s’ he dropped a big single featuring the always-in-tune Lil Yachty, “Greed”, which would go on to become Lucki’s biggest moment in recent history - racking up over 3M YouTube views and 6.5M Spotify streams and putting him in perfect position to make a splash with ‘Wake Up Lucki’. In less than a week, the response to the new project is already overwhelmingly positive, with Lucki’s distinct sound perfectly complemented by the expertly-crafted, futuristic production by the legendary F1lthy - known for having his own, cutting edge style and producing tracks for some of the biggest culture-shifters in the game including Playboi Carti, Juice WRLD, Yachty, and Uzi… not to mention to the next generation of experimental stars like SSGKobe, Yeat, Matt Ox, and more.
In the end, the magic of Lucki is that he is what everyone else strives to be: different.
