Popular NYC musical festival, Governor’s Ball, announced via Twitter yesterday: “Due to circumstances out of our control Migos are no longer performing at Gov Ball.”
This news comes just two days before the Migos were scheduled to perform this Friday, June 10th, further fanning the flames of the breakup rumors that have been circulating in recent weeks.
Rumors of discord within the previously rock-solid superstar rap trio first began to swirl last month when fans noticed that Offset had unfollowed both Quavo and Takeoff on social media, along with his wife Cardi B.
Quavo and Takeoff seemed to confirm the speculation when they announced their joint single, “Hotel Lobby” just a few days later – even referring to themselves as “Unc & Phew” in what seems like it could be the birth of a new duo.
There have been a lot of questions around the potential breakup of one of hip hop’s favorite groups, and few answers. Their label-mate, Lil Yachty, didn’t exactly inspire confidence when he refused to offer any insight into the situation on Off the Record last week, while Akademiks floated the theory that this may all be a stunt for publicity.
Time will tell if this is really the end for the Migos, undeniably one of the greatest rap groups in modern history. While they won’t be performing at year’s Governor’s Ball, attendees shouldn’t be too disappointed as Lil Wayne is reportedly stepping in to replace the Migos.
