Seddy Hendrinx & Skooly “Houdini”

by Aidan C Werder on November 25, 2021

Over the weekend, one of Florida’s most promising new acts, Seddy Hendrinx, dropped the visual for “Houdini” - an absolute dream collaboration with Atlanta’s quiet melodic powerhouse, Skooly, and the latest in a series of incredibly compelling straight-to-YouTube singles in the leadup to Seddy’s long awaited new project.

“Houdini” is a perfect example of why Seddy is clearly one of the next up - his smooth melodic flow, simple catchy hooks, and unique production are all hugely unique and well-executed, serving to separate him from the rest of the pack and position him for explosive growth into the increasingly mainstream melodic-hip-hop-leaning-R&B lane. The addition of Skooly on “Houdini” is a complete no-brainer - his own hyper-stylized, crooning melodic style one of the few that could hold its own against Seddy’s laid back yet striking sound. The two melodic Southerners make a killer combo, and hopefully this won’t be the last time we see them together.

The video for “Houdini” - shot by Seddy-staple Dak Magic in their typical run-and-gun style while on tour - shows that the pair of artists are alike in more ways than one: bonding over their shared taste for limited edition custom fashion and big backwoods while they deliver their verses in some kind of studio/barbershop hybrid location.

For the uninitiated, Skooly is a talented artist and clear standout of 2Chainz’s T.R.U. label. Over the years Skooly has become quietly prolific as he develops and pushes his impressively unique autotuned styled, dropping projects like ‘Blacc John Gotti’, ‘Don’t You Ever Forget Me’, and ‘Nobody Likes Me’ - and more recently popular singles like “Home Alone”, “Lil Boy Shit”, and “Virgil Discount”, the viral T.R.U. collab with 2Chainz that has since become his biggest song to date. Skooly has worked with everyone from Lil Baby, Young Thug, Lil Xan, Young Dolph, and Tay Keith - and a little known fact is that he’s actually the iconic voice behind the now legendary beattags of super-producers Metro Boomin (“Metro Boomin want some more”) and London On Da Track (“We got London on the track”). With “Houdini”, it’s great to see Skooly on a song with a rising star like Seddy - two complementary artists at different stages in their career in similar but clearly distinct lanes.

On the other hand, Seddy Hendrinx is doing an excellent job of laying all the necessary groundwork for a big release to launch him into national awareness (which may or may not be titled ‘Well Sed’). Fresh off a successful national tour with Yung Bleu, he’s been steadily dropping quality singles to keep his growing fanbase at ease in the meantime - all the while catching the eyes and ears of fellow artists and tastemakers around the industry. Pretty much anyone would agree that everything from the sound, the style, to the drip is totally original and completely compelling - practically ensuring that whenever he does decide to drop, all eyes will be on Seddy.
