It may be safe to say that Atlanta rapper Sofaygo’s potential has dramatically heightened since the beginning of 2021, winning over the attention of rap’s biggest stars such as Travis Scott and Trippie Redd. As he released two well-designed projects in the year of 2020, Angelic 7 and After Me, momentum slowly began to pick up. Now, premiering hours ago, SoFaygo presents his vision for one of his 2020 hits “Knock Knock.” The artistically crafted music video is evocative of a Tim Burton film, like Beetlejuice mixed with Barry Sonnenfeld’s Addam’s Family. And of course, it wouldn’t be a shocker to reveal the video’s genius director as the one and only: Cole Bennett. Are we surprised? With SoFaygo dressed as a Beetlejuice-like character, we’re bombarded with intense, Burtonesque scenery. There’s a strong use of ominous, witchy color grading combined with creepy characters that accompany the rapper to create the perfect Halloween thriller. The production, which happens to be credited to Lil’ Tecca, is a punchy, orchestral trap beat with unique instrument changes and song structure. All this, incorporated with Sofaygo’s motley style of rapping and singing presents an intense whirl-wind of art and effortless hit-making.
SoFaygo lept into small stardom with the release of a Soundcloud classic project titled “War,” which included his first true hit song “Clutch.” Since then, the Atlanta rapper has run into endless comparisons to fellow rappers such as Playboi Carti, UnoTheActivist, and more. Comparisons like these are often taken as insults in the guise of compliments. It becomes detrimental to an artist’s growth and self-analysis. However, SoFaygo hasn’t let these criticisms chip away at his dedication to creating unique, new music. Another record titled “Off The Map” caught the attention of Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott. Through cryptic posts on his private instagram account, SoFayGo has begun hinting at a future label signing at the Astroworld rapper’s Cactus Jack Records. If this happens to be the case, we’re looking at another new young talent being added to an already powerful roster; along with the likes of Sheck Wes, Don Toliver, Luxury Tax, WondaGurl, and Chase B. This presents an overwhelming amount of opportunity for SoFayGo, and we hope to see many incredible collaborations to come about.
