South London’s SwitchOTR dropped the visual for his viral hit “Coming For You” - a hugely catchy, melodic “chill drill” style song perfectly complemented by fellow rising stars, A1 & J1 that’s already racked up over 1M YouTube views, 13M TikTok views, and 17M Spotify streams - and is currently sitting at #10 on the UK Charts.
“Coming For You” is a lighthearted pop-leaning hip hop track making its rounds across social media that really has something for everyone - from its insanely catchy sing-song hook, to Switch’s smooth flow & relatable bars delivered in that killer South Norwood accent, to the extremely well-polished production by ShoBeatz expertly combining subtle drill elements with a clever sampling of Avicii’s “The Nights.” To some, the hook on “Coming For You” sounds like a touching message to lost loved ones, to others it sounds more like a warning. Above all else, it sounds like a hit. The icing on the cake is the addition of A1 x J1, splitting the second verse between their distinct but incredibly complementary styles that combine perfectly with Switch’s catchy hook, clean bars, and crisp production.
The remarkable thing about the 19-year-old SwitchOTR is that he is definitely tapping into the same lane as A1 & J1 but manages to play both roles. Leaning into that gentle pop-drill sound with a broad appeal, he delivers hard-hitting verses like J1 but also sings gentle innocent-sounding hooks with deceptively savage lyrics like the talented, baby-faced A1. Switch is even in tune with their secret weapon, the American platinum-producer ShoBeatz out Queens, NY - most known for producing their breakout hit “Latest Trends” (and its remixes featuring Aitch and A Boogie), as well as a host of popular drill songs with various NYC artists, most notably Kay Flock’s “Being Honest” and the remix featuring G Herbo.
Switch has been dropping quality music since 2019 after a video of him and his schoolmates freestyling started circulating - as he explained on his second ever radio interview earlier this month. While he’s seen success with tracks like “Wizards” and “En Route” , “Coming For You” is already taking his career to new heights. With his obvious talent, emerging starpower, and a wide array of top-tier tools at his disposal - not to mention a Top 10 hit under his belt - SwitchOTR is already on the path to greatness. Additionally, given the massive, international appeal of their hybrid sound, it’s very likely we’ll be hearing more from these three emerging UK powerhouses… even way over here across the pond.
