The entire unexpected, disco-feeling collaboration is incredibly well executed. From the way Yachty enters on the groovy bassline with his opening lines, it’s clear this was a match made in heaven. As a fan of Kevin Parker since his high school days, Yachty can perfectly match the tone and vibe of Tame Impala’s unique brand of vibey, psychedelic, pop-rock while bringing his own eccentric flavor to the table - or as he describes in the opening verse: “Bring the hood to the disco.”
The trippy music video looks straight out of the 70s, starring Boat’s winning personality as he delivers pure charisma and cleverly written bars direct-to-camera for nearly 5 straight minutes (in between dance breaks) - accompanied by a dazzling display of colors and psychedelic visual effects.
This collaboration further illustrates the point that the boundaries around hip hop are breaking down. Forward-thinking artists like Lil Yachty are at the forefront of blurring the lines between hip hop and pop, doing the important job of creating a new wave of pop music with broad appeal that still feels authentic and representative of its listeners.
“Breathe Deeper” was originally released last year on Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush - and this Lil Yachty Remix is the first look at the deluxe version set to release next year which will contain 8 new tracks, a combination of new songs and remixes.
